SCPS -
One psychiatrist can accomplish little. Together we can be an influential force.
At the Southern California Psychiatric Society, we're 1,200+ strong. And with your participation, growing stronger every day.
The Professional Agenda
ADVOCACY
Who pays attention to a single voice? Probably not your local
legislator. When 1,200+ voices and voters support one message, that message is
hard to ignore. That's advocacy.
Advocacy
means supporting your patients' right to receive quality care, as well as
supporting the right of all who suffer with mental illness to receive quality
care. Advocacy also means fighting against regulatory intrusions, fending off
legal challenges and contesting governmental policies that constrict or diminish
your professional freedom.
AWARENESS
Organized
psychiatry seeks to create a climate of public awareness and understanding of
your profession and how you work as a psychiatric physician. Together, we will
continue to communicate the great advances being made in the treatment of mental
illness and how these advances benefit society. Our active public affairs
program routinely uses public service announcements, placements on television
and radio talk shows, press releases and a Speakers Bureau to broadcast our
messages...
Accurately.
Positively.
Professionally.
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION
Provocative.
Insightful.
Multiple award winning.
SCPS'
newsletter always keeps
you informed.
Professional Development
Consider SCPS your
invitation to continued professional excellence. Annual scientific symposia,
annual psychopharmacology meeting, and regional /committee-sponsored meetings
keep you up-to-date on developments in the field. Your membership ensures that
in a rapidly changing health care environment, you and your profession survive.
As with any activity, you benefit most by being
active. SCPS offers numerous avenues for your participation.
