CSAP’s sponsored bill regarding Riese hearings, SB 1184, will be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, July 26. Dr. Erick Cheung of UCLA will be in Sacramento to testify in committee. Dr. Cheung and Paul Yoder of SYASL have probably been on twenty Zooms over the last two weeks working with Senator Eggman and Judiciary Committee staff who are analyzing the bill. We are happy to report that, after extensive back and forth over the exact language for amendments to the bill, a compromise has been reached. Will there be even more process written into the bill – yes. Will the fundamental premise – that individuals should not go without medication in between various involuntary holds due to holidays, court scheduling quirks, etc. – be maintained in the bill – yes!
