CSAP and its members continue to do everything possible to restore SAMSHA and other cuts and proposed cuts at the federal level.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit against the Trump Administration challenging the unlawful mass firing of roughly 10,000 full-time U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) employees, the consolidation of 28 HHS divisions into 15 divisions, and the closing of half of HHS’s ten regional offices — including one in San Francisco. You may find the multistate complaint challenging the HHS reduction here and Attorney General Bonta’s press release here.
Also, just yesterday, several US senators, including California’s own Alex Padilla, sent a letter U.S. Health and Human Services Agency Secretary Kennedy regarding SAMSHA that begins, “This proposed reorganization and your proposed cuts of over $1 billion to mental health and substance use programs threaten the lives of millions of Americans and appear to violate federal law, including the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration (ADAMHA) Reorganization Act and the 21st Century Cures Act.” You can read the rest of the letter here.
