AB 890 appears to have escaped the winnowing process, is poised to be heard in committee with significant amendments: the proposed stand-alone NP board to oversee independent practice has been struck from the bill. Independent practice oversight now goes to the Board of Registered Nursing. NPs would be relegated to a BRN advisory committee on which also sit physicians. BRN would be charged with developing independent practice standards with this advisory body giving input. A major concession to some of the opposition, it still promotes independent practice. Not acceptable. However, it does signal the likelihood there will be an up and down vote on the bill when the committee meets. That date unknown at press time.
