Xavier Becerra, California’s Attorney General, confirmed and will lead national health efforts as Secretary of the US Health and Human Service Agency. The Secretary will recommend an Assistant Secretary for behavioral health – PPAC is rooting for a psychiatrist. Mr. Becerra, a co-author of the Affordable Care Act, worked hard as California’s AG to preserve those ACA benefits. Important features of the ACA are essential benefits guaranteeing coverage of all mental disorders, requiring the full range of treatment options, and offering virtually all psychotropic medications to patients in California. PPAC looks forward to working with Secretary Becerra.
