Thursday morning around 1:30 a.m. both houses of the Legislature concluded their work in the 2021-22 session. This being
California, the Senate and Assembly wrestled with a large number of weighty issues up until literally the last minute they had. Those of you who are really into California politics may want to consult this resource for a sense of the most controversial bills, most of which are outside the realm of behavioral health (however, you will note that CARE Court and children’s online privacy are included).
The session isn’t technically over for some time (the end of November). The Governor has until the end of September to act on bills sent to him in the last two weeks of the session.
The next two year session (2023-24) will start on Monday, December 5, when new members elected in November get sworn in. Legislators can introduce new bills this day. We expect Senator Eggman to reintroduce the bills from her eight bill package that did not make it to the Governor this year.
