The Senate and Assembly held their respective fiscal committee suspense file hearings this week. Due to the State’s ongoing fiscal challenges, more bills than usual were held in these committees and are now dead for the year. However, CSAP sponsored SB 1184 (Eggman) – pertaining to Riese hearings – and CSAP co-sponsored SB 1238 (Eggman) – regarding the implementation of last year’s conservatorship reform in SB 43 – both made it out of committee! Both bills will now head to the Assembly floor for votes by August 31, the last day of this two-year legislative session.

Bill Addressing Stigma in Licensure Passes Major Milestone

Also of note – AB 2164, supported by CSAP and championed by Assemblymember and CMA ally Marc Berman, passed out of the Senate Appropriations Committee last week and is on its way to the Senate Floor. AB 2164 removes barriers to licensure for physicians by eliminating the obligation to unnecessarily disclose private mental health conditions. Current disclosure requirements may discourage physicians from seeking mental health services to treat burnout or depression.
